You might have heard "Yo que tú" or "Yo en tu lugar," but the Rioplatense (Argentina-Uruguay) version of this phrase is "Yo que vos" (If I were you), and it is useful for giving advice using the conditional tense.
La versión larga o completa de esta frase es “Si yo fuera vos”.
The longer or complete version of this phrase is "Si yo fuera vos."
Ejemplo:
-Se me hizo tarde, voy a llegar tarde al trabajo.
-Si yo fuera vos, tomaría un taxi.
-Yo que vos, tomaría un taxi.
o
-Yo que vos, tomo un taxi.
Como ves, en la segunda parte deberíamos usar condicional, pero en un registro bastante informal se usa presente del Indicativo.
