“Que pase el que sigue” (Next one, please!)

“Que venga cuando quiera” (Let them come whenever they want)

“Que se joda” (Screw them)

“Que se vaya a cagar” (They can go to hell, but literally: “they can go to poop)

Estas son frases que escuchamos a menudo y que comienzan con “que”. ¿Por qué van seguidas de subjuntivo? Hay varios casos en los que podemos empezar una frase con que y agregarle subjuntivo, aquí vamos a hablar de tres de ellos.

Here are phrases we often hear that start with “que.” Why are they followed by the subjunctive? There are several cases where we can begin a sentence with que and add the subjunctive; here we’ll discuss three of them.

  1. Deseos (Wishes)

  2. Órdenes indirectas (Indirect Commands)

  3. Órdenes sin un sujeto específico (Commands Without a Specific Subject)
