In this lesson we are going to discuss what is the diference between “lo mismo” and “el mismo”.
“El mismo”, “la misma”, “los mismos”, “las mismas” are adjectives, so either they go with the noun or it is implicit.
Let’s see some examples:
-Me gusta tu reloj, yo tengo el mismo (reloj). (I like your watch. I have the same one).
-Yo vivo en la misma casa en la que nací. (I live in the same house in which I was born).
- Para la fiesta usaré los mismo zapatos que usé durante mi boda. (For the party, I will wear the same shoes that I wore during my wedding.)
We use “Lo mismo” when we are talking about a) “the same thing”, or we want to say b) “I don´t care”.
A) Let’s see some examples for “the same thing”.
No es lo mismo “Ser” que “estar”. (It’ s not the same the verb “Ser” as the verb “Estar”)
Si tomo el subte al trabajo tardo 15 minutos, y si voy en bicicleta también tardo 15 minutos, es lo mismo. (If I take the subway to work it takes me 15 minutes, and if I go by bike it is also 15 minutes, it's the same.)
