Irregular Verbs in the Present Tense in Spanish
It will take some time to remember each irregular verb in the present tense and incorporate them into your vocabulary.
The present tense in Spanish has some irregular verbs. It is impossible to know what verb will be irregular or not as they are entirely random and have no formula. It will just take some time to remember each irregular verb in the present tense and incorporate them into your vocabulary.
To make the job easier, we will group the verbs into groups with the same irregularity. Remember that you must use the endings AR-ER or IR according to the verb.
1. Verbs that change from E to IE in the root. (In all forms except Vos and Nosotros)
Mentir
Yo Miento
Vos Mentís
Ud./Él/Ella Miente
Nosotros-as Mentimos
Uds./Ellos-as Mienten
Mentir (to lie), Querer (to Want/to love), Pensar (to Think), Hervir (to Boil), Sentir (to Feel), Preferir (to prefer), Nevar (to snow)
2. Verbs that change from E to I in the root. (In all forms except Vos and Nosotros)
Pedir
Yo Pido
Vos Pedís
UD./Él/Ella Pide
Nosotros-as Pedimos
Uds./Ellos-as Piden
Pedir (to order/to ask for something), Servir (to serve), Repetir (to repeat).
3. Verbs that change from O to UE in the root. (In all forms except Vos and Nosotros)
Dormir
Yo Duermo
Vos Dormís
Ud./Él/Ella Duerme
Nosotros-as Dormimos
Uds./Ellos-as Duermen
Dormir (to sleep), Costar (to cost), Llover (to rain), Poder (can/may/to be able to), Jugar (to play)
Verbs that add Y in the root. (In all forms except Vos and Nosotros)
Distribuir
Yo Distribuyo
Vos Distribuís
Ud./ÉL /Ella Distribuye
Nosotros-as Distribuímos
