“Coparse” is a verb we use a lot in this part of South America, as you’ll see in the two ads below. What does “coparse” mean?

Let’s break it down: if you look up the word copar in a dictionary, it means “to take over a place,” in the sense of “occupying” or “filling up” a space.
Example: “Los turistas coparon Palermo” → “Tourists took over Palermo” or “La hinchada del Inter Miami copó el estadio” → “Inter Miami’s fans packed the stadium.”

However, coparse has a different meaning: it means to get excited about something, to get into it, to feel motivated, to put in good vibes/positive energy.

  • Copate y alentá a la celeste: Come on, cheer for the Uruguayan team! - Get into it and cheer for Uruguay!

*Copate con esta promoción: Get into this promotion!

-Mamá, copate y prestame el auto. (Mom, be cool and let me borrow the car)

-Copate y hacete unos mates. (Come on, get into it and make some mate.)
